The fulfilment in my work derives not solely from receiving praise for my sketching skills but, more importantly, from enhancing the specialness of the occasions my guests celebrate. The smiles, laughter, and warm embraces that follow are tangible proof that guests not only appreciate their caricatures but also revel in the fun and uniqueness of the experience. For many, the thrill lies in being in the spotlight, examined by a live caricature artist while a supportive crowd cheers on. Others relish the excitement and anticipation of the end result. My goal is to make each model feel and look exceptional, a sentiment mirrored in my caricature sketches. The atmosphere is enjoyable and inviting, appealing to people of all ages, backgrounds, and social standings—the fun is infectious! My journey as a live caricature artist began around 2015, marking a significant career shift from my previous role as a motion graphic designer for television, which spanned nearly 25 years. The increasing demand for live and authentic entertainment in weddings and corporate events led me to transition from the digital to the traditional realm of hand-sketched caricatures, using only a marker with no preliminary pencil sketches. Some shading is added with charcoal. On average, a sketch on an A4 page takes only 3 minutes to complete. My style is unique and rare because it combines realistic depictions with an enhanced touch. While exaggerated caricatures enjoy popularity and are readily available, it's my realistic style that captures the most attention. This refined approach gives me a competitive edge in the event entertainment industry. What also distinguishes my service is the heightened ability to capture people in various dynamic situations – talking, looking around, and swaying to the rhythm of the music in the background. Models aren't constrained to sitting up straight or remaining perfectly still; they don't even have to maintain a constant smile throughout the session. If a smiling portrait is desired, a simple cue and a brief 3-second smile is all I need. This approach fosters a relaxed live sketching experience, contributing to a vibrant and lively atmosphere. The establishment of Live Cartoon Portraits was driven by my recognition of a niche in the entertainment market and an understanding of the importance of creating memorable and entertaining experiences for guests. Having successfully sketched at numerous weddings and high-profile corporate events, my vision is to expand this service, making it accessible to a broader clientele. This expansion necessitates the training of artists to acquire or refine their skills in the craft, and to achieve this, I plan to see the legacy of strong business ethics continue with Live Cartoon Portraits into the future.
